In 1999, Tim Berners-Lee stated: “I have a dream for the web [in which computers] become capable of analyzing all the data on the web. The content, links, and transactions between people and computers. A “Semantic Web”, which should make this possible, has yet to emerge…”
Since then, the Web has gone from static to social to semantic but when it comes to technical documentation, we’re not quite at the semantic stage yet. Today’s technical documentation actually works like the good old Web 1.0: one-way publishing of static textual content, written by humans to be read by humans.
So, considering the evolution of the Web, what developments can we expect for technical documentation? What would Tech Doc 2.0 and 3.0 look like, and what possibilities would it open?
In this article published in TCWorld Magazine, our founder and CEO Fabrice Lacroix explores the principles that transformed the Web, how these concepts can be applied to technical documentation, making both the production and consumption of tech content change dimensions.
